RSNO Alchemy ‘Happy End’ – 17th June, Glasgow
Kurt Weill and Bertolt Brecht are synonymous with the radical politics and cultural innovation of the Weimar Republic, most famously with their hit The Threepenny Opera and the musical Happy End.In this performance, Alchemy presents brand new versions of some of Weill’s most memorable songs including ‘Mack the Knife’, ‘The Bilbao Song’, ‘The Mandalay Song’, ‘Surabaya Johnny’ and the ‘Alabama Song’ along with new responses to Weill by Peter Wiegold. The music will be interwoven with Brecht’s touching and poignant poems in a theatrical staging. Brecht and Weill brought a new ethos to performance, a gritty street-sound, devoted to human passion and politics, here taken further by Alchemy’s cutting edge improvisation.

It was an impressive taster for what has now clearly evolved into a seriously ambitious and successful series-to-be.
